Program Information

Degree Offered

MTh Advanced Studies for the Christian Ministry, subject to doctoral application, Postgraduate Diploma Advanced Studies for the Christian Ministry

Format: Campus

Program Description:

The aim of this programme is to produce highly skilled and educated professionals capable of adapting to the needs of churches in the 21st century. In an age when there is no longer a widely shared theological view of the world, a central challenge for academics in this field is to provide a credible and intellectually persuasive standpoint for those working within the church.

The programme encourages students to integrate intellectual skills into an overall ministerial perspective to enable informed reflection on what makes for practical expertise (eg pastoral and missiological) in the realm of the church.

Key areas of study
For successful completion, the MTh (Master of Theology) programme requires 180 credits at masters level; the PGDip (Postgraduate Diploma) programme requires 120 credits of taught modules at masters level.

All full-time students study four 30-credit modules over two semesters (autumn and spring) for 120 M-level credits.

There are four compulsory modules, to be taken by all students (PGDip/MTh):

Old and New Testaments as Canonical Scripture for the Church
Theological, Pastoral, and Missiological Reflection on Ministry
Great Theological Ideas for the Church Today
Research Methods: Theory and Practice
MTh students submit a masters dissertation (15,000 words) for 60 M-level credits on a topic related to theological and/or biblical studies related to a ministerial context.

Teaching is by way of lectures and seminars supported by one-to-one tutorials.
