Program Information

Degree Offered

Master of Science

Format: Campus

Program Description:

Developers and practitioners need to understand the importance of building security and survivability into systems, rather than trying to add it once systems are installed. This program addresses these concerns by drawing on the expertise of the faculty from the three departments that make up the Golisano College of Computing and Information Sciences: computer science, software engineering, and information technolgy.

The master of science in computing security and information assurance consists of a group of seven core courses that provide a common foundation. The core courses are designed to give students a better understanding of the technological as well as the ethical role of computer security in society. Students then develop a specialization by selecting four elective courses. Students conclude their program of study through the successful completion of a thesis under the guidance of a faculty mentor. This cross-disciplinary program enables graduates to develop a strong foundation preparing them for leadership positions in both the private and public sectors in the computer security area or for an advanced degree. Students can also prepare for academic or research careers in computer security and information assurance, as well as further academic study.
