Program Description:

The Masters degree in Ichthyology is awarded on the basis of a thesis on original research onAfrican fishes (freshwater, estuarine or marine), especially in the classical fields of systematics,morphology, distribution, ecology, behaviour or biology. Students reading for the Masters degree in Fisheries Science are required to focus on original research in the fields of fisheries ecology,quantitative resource management, fisheries management or development, aquaculture, stockassessment, resource utilisation or marketing. PhD students must undertake original research, which should either further the boundaries ofknowledge of the systematics or life history of fishes or contribute towards the management offisheries in some or other novel way or contribute towards developments within the broad field ofaquaculture.
