For dentists wishing to develop their knowledge and skills of evidence-based dentistry in identifying and understanding the scientific basis of implant treatment.
Programme outline
The programme includes timetabled seminars, personal study and supervised research. All programme taught modules are considered core teaching, although the student has considerable choice when selecting a research topic. The taught modules’ content includes:
Searching, critically reading and analysing the literature
Formulating appropriate hypotheses for investigation
Demonstrating knowledge of clinical techniques and how to evaluate them
Interpreting the results of these techniques
Planning, conducting and reporting original research.
Students are encouraged to develop appropriate key written, oral, group work and time management skills.
Assessment
The assessment procedures are:
a research report on an individual project
an oral examination on your research report.
Candidates will be examined in the year in which they complete their research report.
Entry requirements
You should normally have successfully completed the two-year part-time Diploma programme in Implant Dentistry, accredited by the Faculty of General Dental Practitioners of the Royal College of Surgeons of England.
