Certificate in Veterinary Practice Administration

Program Description:
The need for professional advancement in the face of accelerating change has long been an accepted fact of the medical/scientific community. This is particularly true for the practicing veterinarian. In this new technological era and with the onset of a new millennium, veterinary professionals will face an increasingly competitive business environment brought on by new and expensive advances in surgical equipment, medical treatments, computer and communication technology, and the progression of corporate ownership, practice consolidations, and pet superstores. As a consequence, veterinarians who lack a broad-based understanding of business will find the economic viability of their practices dramatically compromised.
To help meet that need, the American Animal Hospital Association's Veterinary Management Institute is an intensive, four-module, management education program offering 72 hours of graduate-level instruction on contemporary management issues. The program is held at Purdue University's West Lafayette, Indiana, campus and offers an exciting, academically stimulating course of study. Courses draw upon the faculty and resources of Purdue University's Krannert Graduate School of Management as well as guest faculty selected for their academic credentials and experience in management.
Veterinary practice teams face an increasingly competitive business environment brought on by advances in medical treatments, surgical equipment, information technology and the internet, communication technology, a changing human resource environment, the progression of corporate ownership, practice consolidation, and pet superstores. As a consequence, veterinarians and practice team managers who lack a broad-based understanding of business management and a strategic vision for the future will find the economic viability of their practices dramatically compromised.
The Veterinary Management Institute is an exciting chapter in professional development, offering the opportunity for participants to contribute fully and more effectively to the success of their veterinary practices. VMI focuses on current management needs and contemporary issues, preparing the attendee for the future challenges of practice management in a highly competitive service industry. It is designed for veterinarians and practice team managers with decision-making responsibility who seek formal graduate-level education in practice management.
