Program Description:

From pre-game taping to practice and game medical coverage to injury assessment and rehabilitation, Plymouth State University’s Master of Science degree programs in athletic training will prepare you for success on and off the field.

Working closely with faculty members who are respected professionals in athletic training, Plymouth State’s graduate athletic training programs provide students like you with opportunities to excel. If your goal is to become a BOC certified athletic trainer, or if you’re already BOC certified and want further training in sports medicine or in teaching athletic training, Plymouth State’s entry-level or advanced athletic training programs will help you reach your goals.

Choose from one of three athletic training concentrations to determine your coursework:

* Entry-Level
* Advanced Master’s Higher Education
* Advanced Master’s Sports Medicine

Plymouth State is an NCAA Division III school with 19 varsity athletic teams, including men’s and women’s lacrosse, soccer, basketball, skiing, and ice hockey; as well as men’s football. More than 700 student athletes participate in team sports each year. The Physical Education Center has 33-acres of the best playing and practice fields in Division III, in addition to a three-court gymnasium, an Olympic-sized swimming pool, a wrestling room, tennis courts, and the Vailas Performance Center. The University’s new 860-seat ice arena, scheduled for completion in the fall of 2010, will serve as a teaching facility for instruction and research in ice activities and a home for the varsity men’s and women’s ice hockey teams.

Why choose Plymouth State for your master’s degree in athletic training?

* Immediate hands-on experience working with student athletes, health care professionals, and faculty who are leaders in the field.
* On-site athletic training experiences at various clinical education sites, including Cottage Orthopedics, Holderness School, New Hampton School, and Tilton School.
* Small class sizes. With a maximum of seven students per class, you’ll get the one-on-one interaction with faculty that larger athletic training programs are unable to offer.
* State-of-the-art learning laboratories to conduct research using equipment such as MotionMonitor™, Tek Scan MatScan®, and Dartfish.
* A CAATE-accredited entry-level program ensures that you’ll receive the education you need to prepare for the Board of Certification exam.
* Graduate assistantships are available to students enrolled in the advanced master’s Higher Education and Sports Medicine programs.
* Complete any missing prerequisites for the entry-level program at PSU prior to starting your studies.
