Master of Education in K-12 Education with Spanish Education Certification, K-12 Spanish Education Certification

Format: Campus

Program Description:

Plymouth State University's Master of Education in K-12 Education with Spanish Education Certification will prepare you to be a successful foreign language teacher in any elementary, middle, or high school setting.
If you have a bachelor's degree in Spanish and wish to obtain teaching certification, or are a teacher who is already certified in another foreign language, you'll benefit from this program, which will bring you up-to-date on the latest practices, programs, and changes in educational laws and will qualify you for certification to teach Spanish at the K-12 level in New Hampshire and throughout the United States.
Your curriculum will consist of three core courses required of every PSU Master of Education candidate; six classes focusing on learning theory, classroom management, and instructional strategies (if not already met in undergraduate work); a minimum of six credits in Spanish language, culture, or literature; and, finally, a capstone component at the culmination of your studies in which you'll put theory into practice through either an educational internship or graduate practicum experience.
Prior college-level coursework or equivalent competencies in Spanish history and culture, Spanish American history and culture, and advanced Spanish grammar and composition is required. In addition, completion of at least six advanced Spanish literature courses and an intensive immersion experience, such as a semester abroad or other residency, is also required.

Accreditation:

This program is accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC) as well as the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE).

Eligibility Requirements:

Either the Miller Analogies Test (MAT) or the GRE is required for admission into this program.

International Student Requirements:

International Spanish Education students must have proof of English level proficiency through either the TOEFL, IELTS, or ELS Level 112 scores. In addition, you must provide an I-134 Affidavit of Financial Support Form. Documents, including bank statements and other financial documents dated within the past 30 days, that confirm you have the financial resources to study for a year at Plymouth State must be submitted to the College of Graduate Studies. You must also include a copy of your valid passport with your application materials. Finally, you must also submit official, notarized transcripts, verifying that you've completed at least a baccalaureate degree, which must be translated into English and evaluated for institutional equivalency.
