Program Description:

Plymouth State University's master's degree in heritage studies incorporates history, geography, literature, archaeology, historic preservation, sociology, anthropology, and folklore to help you better understand the present through the eyes of the past. With a concentration in Historic Preservation, you'll be provided with the tools you need for a rewarding career in historic preservation, heritage tourism, or heritage resource management. You'll gain the knowledge you need to preserve and protect historic structures and sites, which is an integral part of any role in a museum, historical society, or architectural preservation organization.
Your curriculum will consist of three core courses required of every PSU Master of Education student; two courses focusing directly on heritage studies; four courses comprising the historic preservation component; several electives; and a capstone component at the culmination of your studies which allows you to put theory into practice through an internship experience.

Eligibility Requirements:

Either the Miller Analogies Test (MAT) or the GRE is required for admission into this program.

International Student Requirements:

International Historic Preservation students must have proof of English level proficiency through either the TOEFL, IELTS, or ELS Level 112 scores. In addition, you must provide an I-134 Affidavit of Financial Support Form. Documents, including bank statements and other financial documents dated within the past 30 days, that confirm you have the financial resources to study for a year at Plymouth State must be submitted to the College of Graduate Studies. You must also include a copy of your valid passport with your application materials. Finally, you must also submit official, notarized transcripts, verifying that you've completed at least a baccalaureate degree, which must be translated into English and evaluated for institutional equivalency.
