Program Description:

Plymouth State's master's degree in Heritage Studies incorporates history, geography, literature, archaeology, historic preservation, sociology, anthropology, and folklore to help you better understand the present through the eyes of the past. In this interdisciplinary program, you’ll work with accomplished faculty to explore the countryside, delve into the landscape, and uncover the meaning of true living history.

Focus your studies in one of three concentrations:

* 5-12 Social Studies Education, which leads to certification to teach social studies in grades 5-12 after additional coursework
* Historic Preservation, which prepares you for various careers in historic preservation, heritage tourism, or heritage resource management
* Self-Designed, which can help you focus on public, private, and museum education; archaeology; historical research; or a combination of areas that meet your professional interests

Eligibility Requirements:

Either the Miller Analogies Test (MAT) or the GRE is required for admission to this program.

International Student Requirements:

International Heritage Studies students must have proof of English level proficiency through either the TOEFL, IELTS, or ELS Level 112 scores. In addition, you must provide an I-134 Affidavit of Financial Support Form. Documents, including bank statements and other financial documents dated within the past 30 days, that confirm you have the financial resources to study for a year at Plymouth State must be submitted to the College of Graduate Studies. You must also include a copy of your valid passport with your application materials. Finally, you must also submit official, notarized transcripts, verifying that you've completed at least a baccalaureate degree, which must be translated into English and evaluated for institutional equivalency.
