Degree Offered

Master of Education in Health Education, K-12 Certification,

Format: Campus

Program Description:

Plymouth State University's master's in health education programs focus on the development and delivery of health education. You will be prepared to teach health and wellness in grades K-12, and your studies at PSU will prepare you to take the Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES) examination offered by the National Commission for Health Education Credentialing to be a certified health educator, ready to teach in elementary, middle, or high schools. Successful achievement of this certification assures employers that you have met the national standards for health education professionals.

Your curriculum will consist of three core classes required of every PSU master of education student, three courses focusing on learning theory; several courses and seminars focusing on health education, ranging from nutrition to substance abuse to sexuality and consumer health; and a capstone component to be completed at the culmination of your studies, where you'll put theory into practice in either a practicum or internship experience.

College-level coursework or the equivalent competencies are required in areas such as exercise theory, CPR, environmental issues in health and disease, first aid, drug behavior, sex and family living education, and anatomy and physiology (with labs).
