Program Description:
Plymouth State University's Eating Disorders Institute (EDI) is one of few graduate programs with a focus on eating disorders and the only of its kind in the northeast.
Educators, health care professionals, counselors, social workers, nurses, and dieticians who wish to specialize in eating disorder treatment may enroll in a 15-credit certificate program that can also be integrated with a self-designed Master of Education in Health Education or Counselor Education.
The EDI is designed to provide you with the knowledge and skills necessary to work with clients and students affected by eating disorders. You'll focus your program on the development of educational and outreach opportunities for delivery in school systems and communities. A 120-hour clinical experience at the end of your program serves as a capstone component, allowing you to put theory into practice in either a prevention/awareness program, educational setting, or eating disorders treatment facility. The core curriculum satisfies the International Association of Eating Disorders Professionals and can lead to future certification.
Accreditation:
Plymouth State University is accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC). In addition, the EDI meets the International Association of Eating Disorders Professionals requirement towards future certification.
Eligibility Requirements:
No admissions test is required for completion of the independent EDI certificate. If you choose to combine the EDI with a master's degree in Health Education or Counselor Education, either the Miller Analogies Test (MAT) or GRE is required. Admission into the Counselor Education program is also contingent on successful completion of a group interview.
International Student Requirements:
International Eating Disorders Institute students must have proof of English level proficiency through either the TOEFL, IELTS, or ELS Level 112 scores.
In addition, you must provide an I-134 Affidavit of Financial Support Form. Documents, including bank statements and other financial documents dated within the past 30 days, that confirm you have the financial resources to study for a year at Plymouth State must be submitted to the College of Graduate Studies.
You must also include a copy of your valid passport with your application materials.
Finally, you must also submit official, notarized transcripts, verifying that you've completed at least a baccalaureate degree, which must be translated into English and evaluated for institutional equivalency.
