Program Description:

With Plymouth State University's Master of Education degree in English Education, you can specialize your degree in the teaching of writing. While working with your own writing in various genres, you'll also learn how to run writing workshops, publish student work, and improve the use of literature in the writing classroom. Discover ways to enhance your techniques for teaching writing skills and develop your approach to teaching creative writing. This program will prepare you for a variety of careers, including classroom teacher, writing specialist, and professional writer.
The program of study consists of core courses required of every master's student, specific English Education courses, and a series of elective specialization courses. Many specialization courses are offered during the summer through the Plymouth Writing Project, the local chapter of the National Writing Project, in which teachers and writers promote exemplary instruction of writing. The final component of your studies is a capstone experience, which may be a practicum experience, individual research in education, or a thesis.

Eligibility Requirements:

Admission to Plymouth State University's Master of Education programs requires either the GRE or, the preferred option by many students, the Miller Analogies Test (MAT).

International Student Requirements:

International Teaching of Writing students must have proof of English level proficiency through either the TOEFL, IELTS, or ELS Level 112 scores. In addition, you must provide an I-134 Affidavit of Financial Support Form. Documents, including bank statements and other financial documents dated within the past 30 days, that confirm you have the financial resources to study for a year at Plymouth State must be submitted to the College of Graduate Studies. You must also include a copy of your valid passport with your application materials. Finally, you must also submit official, notarized transcripts, verifying that you've completed at least a baccalaureate degree, which must be translated into English and evaluated for institutional equivalency.
