Program Description:
Plymouth State University's Master of Education degree in English Education with a concentration in 5-12 English Education will prepare you to be a licensed English teacher in the state of New Hampshire. Your studies will provide you with a strong foundation in literature, writing, and language. A background of college-level coursework or equivalent competencies in literary criticism, grammar and language study, and writing above the composition level is necessary for admission into this program.
The curriculum consists of a master's core component of classes, a set of learning theory requirements (if not met in undergraduate work), two courses focusing on specific English teaching methods, two literature or writing electives, and a capstone component, which will consist of either an internship or a practicum. As an English education student, you may also take part in courses sponsored by the Plymouth Writing Project, the local chapter of the National Writing Project.

This program is accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC) and the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE).
Eligibility Requirements:
Admission to Plymouth State University's Master of Education programs requires either the GRE or, the preferred option by many students, the Miller Analogies Test (MAT).
International Student Requirements:
International English Education students must have proof of English level proficiency through either the TOEFL, IELTS, or ELS Level 112 scores.
In addition, you must provide an I-134 Affidavit of Financial Support Form. Documents, including bank statements and other financial documents dated within the past 30 days, that confirm you have the financial resources to study for a year at Plymouth State must be submitted to the College of Graduate Studies.
You must also include a copy of your valid passport with your application materials.
Finally, you must also submit official, notarized transcripts, verifying that you've completed at least a baccalaureate degree, which must be translated into English and evaluated for institutional equivalency.
