Program Description:
At Plymouth State University, you'll prepare yourself for a career as a licensed mental health counselor by earning your Master of Education degree in Counselor Education with a concentration in Mental Health Counseling. You'll learn how you can help individuals, groups, and families achieve optimal mental health and well-being. Many rewarding professional options are possible with this degree, including working in public health facilities or opening a private practice.
The curriculum consists of core Counselor Education courses, a focused specialization component, and a 900-hour clinical internship experience. This program is accredited by the prestigious Council for the Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP) and at the end of your studies, you will meet educational requirements for state licensure.
You can also add on several certificate options when you complete your graduate studies at Plymouth State. Certificates include Conflict in Families, Eating Disorders Institute, Parenting Education, Play Therapy, Organizational Approaches to Transformation and Healing (OATH), and Personal Approaches to Transformation and Healing (PATH).

Eligibility Requirements:
Admission to Plymouth State University's Master of Education programs requires either the GRE or, the preferred option by many students, the Miller Analogies Test (MAT).
Also, for Counselor Education programs, an admissions group interview is required.
International Student Requirements:
International Counselor Education students must have proof of English level proficiency through either the TOEFL, IELTS, or ELS Level 112 scores.
In addition, you must provide an I-134 Affidavit of Financial Support Form. Documents, including bank statements and other financial documents dated within the past 30 days, that confirm you have the financial resources to study for a year at Plymouth State must be submitted to the College of Graduate Studies.
You must also include a copy of your valid passport with your application materials.
Finally, you must also submit official, notarized transcripts, verifying that you've completed at least a baccalaureate degree, which must be translated into English and evaluated for institutional equivalency.
