Degree Offered
Doctor of Education in Learning, Leadership, and Community
Format: Campus
Program Description:
Plymouth State University's Doctor of Education in Learning, Leadership, and Community creates an environment for students to engage in collaborative inquiry, focused scholarship, and applied research. The Doctor of Education degree is oriented to the improvement of professional practice by extending the knowledge, expertise, and skill of candidates through the application of research to leadership issues.
Experienced practitioners and professionals, including teachers, administrators, counselors, and individuals in higher education, related community agencies, and organizations, will be prepared to become system leaders and agents of change in their communities and will be ready to advance their professional careers.
This program follows a cohort model, a peer group with whom you'll take your eight required core doctoral courses. You can apply to either a year-round cohort or a summer cohort depending on your distance from the Plymouth campus, your flexibility with course scheduling, and the speed with which you intend to complete your degree. The summer cohorts form in "even" years (2012, 2014, etc.) and the year-round cohorts form in "odd" years (2011, 2013, etc.).
The curriculum consists of the eight core doctoral courses (which must be taken in residence at PSU), approximately nine courses in a specialization area (which may be transferred from a Certificate of Advanced Graduate Studies (CAGS) program), and nine credits of dissertation work.
Completed applications must be received online annually by April 15th for admittance consideration.
