Program Description:

The Marriage and Family Therapy program at Pfeiffer provides clinical and academic
training required to become a licensed therapist working specifically with individuals,
couples, and families in a wide variety of work settings. The new program meets the
academic and experiential requirements for licensure as a marriage and family therapist in North Carolina and prepares students for the national AMFTRB exam.
Special Features

You can complete your master's degree in three to four years while working full time.
Pfeiffer's Marriage and Family Therapy program will be one of only three programs in North Carolina once accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Marriage and Family Therapy Education.
You'll study and train with a faculty of licensed marriage & family therapists who bring a wealth of professional experience and knowledge and who are supervisors or supervisor candidates approved by the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy.
This program offers specialized training in working with individuals, couples, and families.
You'll gain internship experience through field placements in a variety of therapeutic settings which ensure opportunities for specialized practice.
Professionalism and therapeutic alliance are highlights of your clinical training.
As part of our focus on professional identity, we strongly emphasize reflection on yourself as a therapist.
Our relational hours requirement fulfills the experiential competency for the MFT scope of training.
A thesis opportunity is provided for students applying for doctoral studies.

Accreditation:

Pfeiffer University is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (1866 Southern Lane, Decatur, Georgia 30033-4097: Telephone number 404-679-4501) to award Bachelor's and master's degrees.

Eligibility Requirements:

• A completed Pfeiffer University graduate application for admission with application fee. Applications are available at pfeiffer.edu.
• A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university
• Nine hours of coursework in the social sciences
• A minimum undergraduate GPA of 3.00 in major, 2.75 overall, and acceptable GRE scores (official scores must be mailed to Pfeiffer)
• Official transcripts from all colleges or universities attended
• 3 letters of recommendation from professors and supervisors written on official letterhead, each with the recommendation form from Web site.
• Resume or vitae and a writing sample describing how your degree and training will affect your personal and professional goals
• Personal small group interview with Admissions Committee approval
• Proof of satisfactory criminal background record check for all states of residence for the past five years

The deadline for applicants wishing to begin in the summer or fall semester is March 15.
