Occupations in homeland security and homeland defense continue to grow in both the federal government and private sector. Penn State's 33-credit online intercollege master of professional studies in homeland security (iMPS-HLS) degree program and associated certificates from Penn State can prepare you to be a leader in the growing field of homeland security. The program provides a curriculum that will help you learn to:

• identify and assess potential threats, vulnerabilities, and consequences
• comprehend major policy and legislation that shapes homeland security
• apply the skills for procuring and acting on information
• recognize how natural and man-made catastrophes affect society and the domestic and global economy
• develop an awareness of the cultural, social, psychological, political, and legal aspects of terrorism and counterterrorism

The online master of professional studies in homeland security is unique in that it offers five specialized tracks from which to choose, allowing you to tailor your studies to complement your strengths and interests.

Choose the master's degree option that best meets your career advancement goals or pursue a standalone certificate in one of the five areas. Penn State offers a series of homeland security core courses that can provide you with a fundamental understanding of homeland security, and then you can choose one of five specializations that best meet your career advancement goals:

• the general homeland security base program which focuses on policy and organization,
• public health preparedness,
• geospatial intelligence,
• information security and forensics, or
• agricultural biosecurity.

You may choose to begin your education as a homeland security certificate student or as a student in the master's degree program. The credits you earn in the certificate may be applied toward the Master’s in Homeland Security.
