Program Description:

The online Master's of Education Degree with a specialization in School Counseling provides the academic foundation for school counseling certification, as well as Professional Counselor licensure in the State of Texas The online school counseling program is offered in a cohort format. Each cohort will be comprised of 15-20 students who stay together during the duration of the program. The online school counseling program will follow the OLLU academic calendar. Cohort delivery offers unique benefits. As a member of a cohort you will have the opportunity to build lasting professional and personal relationships, be able to share similar educational goals, and offer and receive mutual academic and emotional support. At Our Lady of the Lake University, online classes are always taught by experienced faculty with a wide range of expertise, including current and former classroom teachers, principals, and district administrators, and state and nationally certified counselors, who blend theory and practical experiences to provide a rich environment for learning and growing. The Master's of Education with a specialization in School Counseling is a 48 hour program that includes two-semester practicum requiring a minimum of 125 direct service hours and 225 total hours per semester, where the student is jointly supervised by the university and an accredited school.

Eligibility Requirements:

Applicants for professional certificates, which include school counselors in Texas, are required to pass the appropriate certification test (TExES). All applicants for Texas Certificates are also screened for a record of felony or misdemeanor conviction through the Texas Department of Public Safety, as prescribed by state law.
