Program Description:

We are a top 25 Physics Department with a history of research excellence. We have undergone a recent aggressive expansion (10 new faculty and a 50% increase in research funding over the past 5 years) focused on emerging areas of physics research. In addition to the broad range of research activities described below, our students and faculty play central roles in interdisciplinary centers such as the Center for Emergent Materials (a new NSF MRSEC), the Center for Cosmology and Astro Particle Physics, and the Center for Electronic & Magnetic Nanoscale Composite Multifunctional Materials.
