Program Information
Degree Offered
Master of Science, PhD
Format: Campus
Program Description:
A productive society is marked by its harmony with a sustainable and healthy environment: changing climate, energy policies, global food and water distribution, economic and social development to conserve habitat and biodiversity. In this world of unprecedented environmental challenges the common core is inextricably linked to human values.
Within the Environmental Social Sciences (ESS) Graduate Specialization, students learn how to build scientific understanding of these issues, identify potential responses and evaluate their consequences, and, ultimately, decide how and when to take action. Students work with faculty who study how people value and use the environment and natural resources, make decisions about, and design policies to address environmental and natural resources issues. Through coursework and first-hand research experience, students build their expertise of the natural and social components underlying today’s environmental challenges.
