Program Description:

The Biomedical Sciences: Medical Physics PhD is right for you if you are planning a career in medical research in an industrial, hospital or academic setting. The curriculum prepares you to engage in research in areas of physics applied to medicine. Some of the contributions medical physicists have made to diagnostic and therapeutic medicine include: laser surgery, ultrasonics, nuclear medicine, radio-therapy and nuclear magnetic resonance imaging. Ph.D. candidates may elect to do their research either with Oakland University faculty members currently involved in biomedical research or with a scientist at an area hospital that collaborates closely with the university. Among these are Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit and William Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak.
