Program Description:

This degree and certification program is designed to prepare school psychologists. Emphasis is placed on developing skills in the assessment of learning and behavior problems and on developing the skills needed to serve as an effective consultant with school personnel.

The M.A. in School Psychology requires that you complete 48 semester credit hours. This degree is intended for students who do not have a master's degree and plan to take the additional course work necessary to be certified by the Arizona Department of Education (ADE). Certification by ADE as a School Psychologist requires a master's degree and a program approved by the Educational Psychology faculty and ADE staff.

The School Psychologist Certification Program consists of a minimum of three years of full-time academic study beyond the baccalaureate degree requiring completion of 72 credit hours. Included is a one academic year internship consisting of a minimum of 1200 clock hours, at least 600 hours of which must be in a school setting.

The 72 hour specialist program has received full program approval status from the National Association of School Psychologists (NASP).

The College of Education is a key member of the Professional Education Unit at Northern Arizona University, which is accredited by the National Council for the Accreditation of Teacher Education. The School Psychology program is accredited by the National Association of School Psychologists. NAU is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools (NCA).
