Program Description:
NAU offers academic programs leading to the Master of Science degree in Chemistry. The objective of the chemistry department's graduate program is to provide an experience that meets the educational goals of the individual student while providing opportunities for research in traditional and interdisciplinary areas of chemistry. We prepare our students for careers in industry and teaching, as well as for post-graduate and professional programs at other institutions. Support for graduate students in chemistry is available in the form of research and teaching assistantships. Opportunities often exist for graduate students to participate in industrially supported research. An internship in forensic chemistry also is available. Recently, the Chemistry Department has placed an increasing emphasis on developing research projects in the fields of Environmental Chemistry, Bioorganic & Biochemistry, and Carcinogenisis & Cancer Chemotherapy. The Department also provides opportunities in areas such as Archaeological Chemistry, Immunochemistry, Exercise Biochemistry, Forensic Chemistry, Chemical Physics and Geochemistry, in addition to the traditional areas of Analytical, Inorganic, Organic, and Physical Chemistry.
