Program Description:
With both MA and PhD programs, course offerings ranging from Medieval English to contemporary British and American literature and literary criticism, linguistics, and film studies, and particular strengths in nineteenth-, twentieth-, and twenty-first century English and American literature as well as in rhetoric and composition, the English Department of Northeastern University offers a solid record of achievement and distinctive strengths.
Graduate faculty members in the English Department at Northeastern University cover a spectrum of traditional literary fields from the medieval period to postmodernism, as well as composition and linguistics. In addition, many faculty members conduct research that cuts across the subjects and methods of traditional fields, including research on the Atlantic literary world from the Renaissance to the present; cultural studies, including material culture, film, studies in gender and ethnicity, and cultural theory; and rhetoric.
In keeping with the broad interests of its graduate faculty, the Department of English offers a range of graduate degree programs. The Ph.D program is for full time students only.
