The School of Architecture at Northeastern University is a different kind of place. At Northeastern we bring together a very strong faculty–which excels in practice, teaching, scholarship and research– with an explicit mission to engage the challenges of the contemporary city. This means that our students learn about the global forces that shape our cities in many different contexts: design, history, technology, commerce, and culture. But what sets the school apart is its commitment to bringing the power of critical thinking and design innovation to the very real problems of the world’s cities.

The Northeastern University School of Architecture offers a professional Master of Architecture degree, accredited by the National Architectural Accreditation Board (NAAB). The degree prepares students for careers as professionally licensed architects and as urban designers, in addition to exposing them to the complexities of developing the contemporary city. All faculty members are practicing professionals or scholars engaged in active research.

This M.Arch degree program can be entered in multiple ways. First, it is offered as a one-year completion to the five-year Northeastern Bachelor of Science (BS) degree (with a major in architecture). Students who complete the five-year degree with a 3.0 minimum overall GPA meet the minimum requirements for admission directly to the M.Arch. program, for a one-year, 32 semester hour program.

But students who have earned a BS in Architecture (or equivalent) from another institution may also apply for entry to the M.Arch. program, though their stay will be two years, and 68 semester hours.
