Program Description:

This programme provides research training in the social sciences and develops skills that are specifically related to conducting research into rural areas, the environment and food markets. It is particularly suitable if you intend to progress to a PhD and/or a research career in universities, or the public and private sectors. You take compulsory modules (90 credits) in: information skills; thinking about research û puzzles, paradoxes and problems; qualitative methodology in the social sciences; quantitative methodology in the social sciences; research methods and project management; dissertation preparation.You select optional modules (30 credits) from topics such as: rural society and development; rural environmental planning; environmental impact assessment; GIS and remote sensing; rural environmental policy evaluation; international marketing; agrifood industry management; food policy in the European Union. You also complete a dissertation (60 credits), which could be a desk-based analysis, or a study involving fieldwork or case studies.
