Program Description:
This programme is designed to equip graduates with a well-founded knowledge and understanding of naval architecture and of its practical application, particularly in the areas of ship design, performance, production, structures and propulsion. You take a selection of taught modules (100 credits) and undertake a research project and dissertation (80 credits). Compulsory modules (70 credits) include: marine production technology; theory of plates and grillages; ship performance; ship propulsion; marine transport and economics; advanced hydrodynamics; research skills. You also select optional modules (30 credits) from a list which includes: design and analysis of marine transport systems; structural response analysis; optimal marine design; marine management technology; high-speed and advanced craft; design and analysis of marine transport systems. The programme is also available with a Preliminary Year, which provides you with the necessary knowledge to study at Masters level. You select one module (20 credits) from: marine engineering design; marine design; offshore design; small craft design. You also take 70 credits of optional modules and complete a project and report (30 credits).
