Program Description:
This exciting programme aims to provide biology, chemistry, and Earth and environmental science graduates with the advanced conceptual understanding, detailed factual knowledge, and specialist technical skills appropriate for success in a science-based environmental business. It will also help to develop your knowledge and understanding of the framework within which business opportunities are identified and pursued within the environmental sector. The MSc comprises a 100-credit taught component and an 80-credit consultancy project. Compulsory modules (70 credits) include: the environment business; research methods; aqueous geochemistry; introduction to microbiology, microbial physiology and biogeochemistry; sources and fate of pollutants; analytical geochemistry 1 and 2. Three optional technical modules (10 credits each) are then taken from: groundwater assessment; microbial transformations of organic pollutants; biogeochemistry of pollution control; contaminated land. An innovative feature of this programme is that technical modules are normally taught in two-week blocks. The consultancy project enables you to gain experience of undertaking a substantial individual research project, the aims of which are identified through liaison with a real-world client. The outcomes of the project are delivered in a substantial report, which is designed to meet the clientÆs needs.
