Program Description:

The Department of Art and Art Professions brings students, practicing artists, educators, and art professionals together in a richly interactive, multidisciplinary community that fosters imaginative art-making, intellectual exchange, and career preparation. Students are immersed in a dynamic New York art world and its endless visual and intellectual stimuli, which provides invaluable learning opportunities and real-life experience. The department offers graduate programs in studio art, art education, visual arts administration, visual culture (theory and costume studies), and art therapy. Courses are offered in collaboration with premier cultural institutions in the city, including the International Center for Photography and the Glass Workshop in Brooklyn. Unique summer graduate study abroad programs are held in Utrecht, the Netherlands and Vienna, Austria (Arts Administration in the European Context); Venice, Italy (Studio Art); Beijing and Shanghai, China (Visual Culture); and South Africa (Art Education).
