Program Information

Degree Offered

M.A. - Science Education

Program Description:

Our new 1-year Clinically Rich Integrated Science Program (CRISP) M.A. integrates graduate coursework with teaching practice, and places you in student teaching positions in New York City middle and high schools for the full public school year. This teacher residency program leads to New York State initial teacher certification for grades 7-12 in the teaching of biology, chemistry, or physics. Mentored by cooperating teachers and NYU field supervisors, you’ll take on increasing responsibility for teaching science. The teacher residency program is specially designed for career changers and recent college graduates in science or a related field and allows you to complete your degree in two consecutive semesters, plus two summers, of full-time study. As a CRISP participant, you will receive a generous $30,000 in tuition scholarships and a $20,000 living stipend. Current teachers seeking professional certification may study full or part time in our 30-credit Science Education M.A. program. Graduates of both programs teach at both private and public schools. Science communication skills are also the basis for a variety of careers outside the formal school system. Newspapers and magazines, radio and television, museums and science centers, science and technology-based organizations, and corporations all need people with a sound science background.

Steinhardt's teacher education programs are accredited by the Teacher Education Accreditation Council. New York University is a member of the Association of American Universities and is accredited by the Commission on Higher Education of the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools.
