Program Description:

This program trains doctoral candidates in the biology of infectious disease processes. There are two sub-programs (Microbiology and Medical and Molecular Parasitology) that offer training in the fields of microbial and molecular genetics, viral and bacterial pathogenesis, host defense mechanisms, AIDS and retrovirology, oncogenesis, growth factors and cytokines, regulation of gene expression; the biochemistry, cell, and molecular biology of malarial parasites, trypanosomes and pneumocystis, and the immunological phenomena associated with malarial and trypanosomal infections. Applicants should have a strong background in biology, chemistry, biochemistry, molecular biology, and genetics.
