Program Description:

The graduate program in history offers doctoral programs in national, international, and comparative fields, including the history of the United States, Latin America, medieval Europe, early modern Europe, modern Europe, East Asia, Africa, African Diaspora, and the Atlantic world. There are joint Ph.D. programs in French history through the Institute of French Studies; Jewish history through the Skirball Department of Hebrew and Judaic Studies; and history and Middle Eastern studies with the Department of Middle Eastern Studies. Students may choose to emphasize comparative or thematic approaches, either within their areas of specialization or as a minor field. The graduate program in history also offers master's programs in archives and public history, history with a specialization in history of women and gender, and world history. Additionally, advanced certificate degree programs in archives and public history are available to students who already hold an M.A. degree in the humanities or social sciences. The Department of History also offers a dual degree program in history and law (with the School of Law).
