Program Description:
The Program in American Studies, located within the Department of Social and Cultural Analysis, offers courses of study leading to the degrees of Master of Arts and Doctor of Philosophy. It is designed to prepare students for advanced work and teaching in American studies. Interdisciplinary by definition, the student's course of study is arranged with the director of the program and the director of graduate studies and includes seminars offered in the program, in the larger Department of Social and Cultural Analysis, and in selected other departments, programs, and institutes, including Anthropology, Cinema Studies, Comparative Literature, English, History, Journalism, Middle Eastern Studies, Performance Studies, and Sociology.
