Program Description:


The Department of Biology offers graduate study leading to the Master of Science and Doctor of Philosophy degrees. The Master of Science degree can be obtained through a thesis or non-thesis option. The non-thesis option can be completed as an accelerated (one year) program concentrating on biotechnology.
The accelerated non-thesis MS program is designed to prepare students for biotechnology related careers in basic and applied research; in product development and testing; and in policy-making, regulation and law enforcement.
The MS and PhD programs, students can chose among the department's three core programs of formal coursework: Ecology and Evolutionary Biology, Cell and Organismal Biology, and Microbiology.

International Student Requirements:

International applicants submitting foreign post-secondary level transcripts are required to have their credentials evaluated by a recognized member of the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (NACES). NMSU requires a comprehensive course by course evaluation. In addition, international students must submit an English language proficiency exam (either TOEFL or IELTS.)
