Program Description:

The Department of English offers graduate study leading to the MA, MFA in Creative Writing, and PhD in Rhetoric and Professional Communication degrees. The MA program has four areas of emphasis: Creative Writing, English Studies for Teachers, Literature, and Rhetoric and Professional Communication. Students in the MFA program devote themselves to concentrated study and development of a chosen genre: fiction or poetry. The Ph.D. program offers courses in rhetoric, composition studies, professional communication, and critical/cultural studies, drawing on a range of research methods and pedagogical approaches.

International Student Requirements:

International applicants submitting foreign post-secondary level transcripts are required to have their credentials evaluated by a recognized member of the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (NACES). NMSU requires a comprehensive course by course evaluation. In addition, international students must submit an English language proficiency exam (either TOEFL or IELTS.)
