Program Description:
The Department of Geological Sciences offers graduate study leading to the Master of Science in Geology degree.
Characterized with an interdisciplinary approach, the geology program can be tailored to suit a student's field of interest or in areas of faculty specialization. Geological Sciences also, cooperates with other departments on campus in the areas of engineering geology and hydrology (Civil Engineering), soil science (Agronomy and Horticulture), geo-archaeology (Sociology and Anthropology), and geophysics (Physics).
Advanced training offered through the program of study qualifies graduates for employment in environmental geology, hydrology, or the energy industries; government service; or to serve as preparation for further graduate study.
International Student Requirements:
International applicants submitting foreign post-secondary level transcripts are required to have their credentials evaluated by a recognized member of the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (NACES). NMSU requires a comprehensive course by course evaluation. In addition, international students must submit an English language proficiency exam (either TOEFL or IELTS.)
