Program Description:
The goal of the Activism and Social Change M.A. is to nurture the development of thoughtful, self-reflective, activists and facilitators of social transformation. Students will study social theory, as well as strategies and skills from experienced activists who teach, lead workshops, and mentor students in the community. Students put theory into practice by completing significant field studies in social movements and community organizations. Linking intellectual challenge with social action, the Activism & Social Change Program explores:Our Social World from the local to the globalSocial Movements past and presentThe Global economy in relation to people, culture and natureMethods and strategies for organizers and activistsStudents have opportunities to:Work with skilled local, national and international activists who serve as faculty, guest lecturers and community advisorsIntern with progressive organizations as part of their degree program.Participate in a vibrant intellectual and political community dedicated to radical social change
