Program Information
Degree Offered
Master of Science in Acupuncture
Format: Campus
Program Description:
National University of Health Sciences (NUHS) offers a seven-trimester program leading to the Master of Science in Acupuncture (MSAc). Students will be immersed in the same comprehensive training as National’s Master of Science in Oriental Medicine (MSOM) program, with the exception of the study of Chinese herbal medicine.
The World Health Organization recognizes more than 300 diseases and illnesses that acupuncture and oriental medicine can effectively treat and/or prevent. Because of acupuncture’s effectiveness, consumer demand is growing. Licensed acupuncturists can now be found in a broad range of health care settings, from hospitals and integrated care clinics to private practice.
National’s Master of Science in Oriental Medicine program is ideal for health care professionals — chiropractors, nurses, physicians, physical therapists, and others — who wish to augment their professional knowledge with additional skills in natural health care.
Oriental medicine students at NUHS not only receive a thorough curriculum in their arts, but also learn fundamental biomedical science and modern medical diagnostics including coursework in radiology, pathology, physiology, microbiology, and public health.
This backbone of western medical science gives today’s oriental medicine practitioner a distinct advantage not only in certification exams, but also in meeting the challenges of integrative care positions in hospitals and managed care settings.
As one of only two institutions in the U.S. to integrate chiropractic, oriental and naturopathic medicine on one campus, National students are able to dialogue together, share collaborative research and clinical care opportunities, and work together to provide their future patients with the best of natural health care.
An MSAc degree from National will allow graduates to take national board exams and achieve certification in most states to practice as a licensed acupuncturist.
