Program Information

Degree Offered

MSc.-Biomedical Engineering

Format: Campus

Program Description:

This MSc course is jointly offered by the Nanyang Technological University and Singapore General Hospital. Biomedical engineering is a multidisciplinary field that requires the expertise from many different areas of engineering. It is also a fast growing "sun rise" industry in the world. Biomedical engineers apply their advanced engineering technology to solve clinical problems so as to enhance the quality of the overall health care services. In Singapore, biomedical engineers are employed in hospitals, universities and research institutes where they work alongside physicians, surgeons and therapists when designing new medical instruments as well as establishing new clinical procedures and guidelines. Research activities in advancing health care services are also a major part of biomedical engineers' endeavour. Some biomedical engineers are also appointed as technical advisors for health care companies for they can provide the important link between medical sciences and engineering technology. The demand for the services of biomedical engineers in Singapore grows rapidly in recent years and it will be even faster in the near future. Life sciences and health care have been identified by the Economic Development Board and the National Science and Technology Board as one of the key areas critical to the development of the industries in Singapore. This Master of Science course is specifically designed for graduate engineers, scientists, researchers, physicians and other related professionals with an interest to pursue a career in life sciences and health care.
