SIU's graduate program in international relations and diplomacy, offered at its London and Paris campuses, is a professional program which prepares students for careers in foreign affairs, with their own governments or with international organizations, in journalism or in business. It combines a traditional theoretical approach to the study of international relations with practical training in the mechanics of contemporary diplomacy and international negotiations. Central to the program is a two-semester laboratory course in diplomacy which introduces students to the structure and functions of diplomatic missions and trains them in the skills of diplomacy. Also, by completing three additional graduate courses in European studies or in international business, students may specialize their international relations and diplomacy degree in either field.
