Program Description:

The Master of Arts in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (MATESOL) and the Master of Arts in Teaching a Foreign Language (MATFL) degree programs are distinguished for their solid foundation in the fields of linguistics, language pedagogy, and applied linguistics research. Students receive training in a broad range of topics important to the development of language education professionals. They design language lessons, develop curricula and assessment tools and conduct research projects. The programs are cited among the top master's programs in the country.
The Peace Corps Master's International (PCMI) TESOL program offers students the option of enriching their graduate studies with two years of Peace Corps service. PCMI candidates complete their first two semesters at the Monterey Institute, then serve 27 months abroad, before returning for a final semester to complete their TESOL Master's degree.
Graduates of the programs go on to teaching careers both in the United States and around the world. They pursue professional positions as language teachers, technologists, curriculum designers, language program administrators, assessment specialists and international educational program directors.
