Program Description:
Graduate study in literature at Miami University is distinguished by seminar-style classes and close contact with graduate faculty. The programs are selective and relatively small, reflecting the department's long and continuing commitment to a historical orientation in literary study. The Master of Arts is open to students with a bachelor's degree in English or a related discipline. Students in the literature program may choose either a thesis or non-thesis plan. The doctoral program is open to students with the M.A. or the equivalent. Exceptional students are encouraged to apply for admission directly into the Ph.D. program from their bachelor's degree study. The program requires 60 semester hours of study with an M.A. (approximately half in seminars and half on the dissertation), 90 with the B.A.
