Program Description:
The English Department’s graduate program at Memorial University has the motto: Re-Imagine the Literary Landscape. Combining traditional scholarly study with cutting edge approaches to textual analysis, our graduate programs offer a wide variety of courses and many externally funded research faculty. We offer a vital and exciting M.A. program by course work or by thesis route. Our Ph.D. program is consistent with all Canadian Ph.D. programs, combining course work, comprehensive exams and the dissertation. Our graduate faculty have research and supervisory expertise in areas such as (but not limited to): Contemporary literature; Post-colonial literatures; American literature; Canadian literature; and North Atlantic literatures (Newfoundland, Ireland, Scotland, England). Students in our programs have written theses on topics such as: masculinity in British literature, violence in Irish literature, representations of trauma in graphic novels, and the urban world of Newfoundland fiction.
