Program Information

Degree Offered

M.S.W., Ph.D.

Format: Campus

Program Description:

The M.S.W. degree offered by Loyola University Chicago is distinctive for its emphasis on the clinical skills and knowledge required to assist people in positive growth and development. The M.S.W. degree offers opportunities for advanced practice in Clinical Social Work or Leadership and Development in the Social Services. Students interested in clinical practice can specialize in health, children and families, schools, and mental health, while LDSS students learn strategies for effective non-profit management, grant-writing, staff supervision, and other leadership skills. Examples of practice in which solid clinical knowledge is important include: community mental health, children's services, school social work and social work in health-care settings. Students can also focus on migration studies as part of either track.

The School of Social Work at Loyola University Chicago has a long tradition of educating outstanding professionals for the direct practice of social work. Our doctoral program, established in 1986, continues and extends this tradition by graduating scholars skilled in clinical research, scholarship, and teaching. The Jesuit ideal of service to others and commitment to social justice guides and nourishes our program as we prepare students for leadership roles in diverse practice and academic arenas. As part of Loyola University Chicago, the School of Social Work is embedded in an urban environment offering diverse opportunities for learning to facilitate evaluation of clinical practice and/or the context in which those services are delivered.
