M.A.-Pastoral Studies

Program Description:

The M.A. in Pastoral Studies is intended to provide the setting for general study in the areas of pastoral theology, the spirituality of ministerial life, pastoral ministry and religious education. The program is designed to meet the needs of a wide variety of participants.

The M.A. degree continues a longstanding tradition at IPS of offering educational experiences and reflective opportunities suited to the needs of pastoral ministers and religiously committed persons seeking to live and serve in today's society.

This degree has been designed for three different audiences:

1. Professional ministers, lay and religious, who wish to build on their past study and experience, enriching and deepening their background for their work, or to provide themselves with a sabbatical or with a time for reflection before undertaking a new work.
2. Committed believers who, as a result of their life experience and religious involvement are prompted, often in mid-life, to undertake a more intense study of their religious tradition and to develop an understanding of their role as disciple and pastoral minister.
3. Younger adults who, stimulated by earlier study and by involvement in pastoral ministry or service, seek to provide themselves with the intellectual and personal resources for a fully formed life as human person, as church member and as minister.
