Program Information
Degree Offered
M.S., Ph.D.
Format: Campus
Program Description:
The Department of Physiology offers a research-oriented Ph.D. graduate program in Cell and Molecular Physiology. Different lines of investigation are very well represented in the department: ion channels (biochemistry, biophysics, molecular biology, physiology, and pharmacology of Na+, different Ca2+, and K+ channels), intracellular Ca homeostasis in heart and smooth muscle cells, cardiac electrophysiology, excitation- contraction and excitation secretion coupling, cellular physiology of macrophages, protein synthesis and degradation in heart hypertrophy, pathophysiology of septic shock and ischemia, non-linear dynamics as applied to physiological systems, and neurophysiology. The Department is well equipped with state-of-the-art technology in different areas of investigation, such as patch-clamp, intracellular fluorescence measurements of Ca2+, imaging systems, electrophysiology, molecular biology, cell culture, etc.
