M.A.- Sports Management
Aims of the course
This course is aimed at professionals working in sports organisations, either in sport management or sports policy. It is also aimed at graduates aspiring to work in sports business or management by gaining a Masters award that develops knowledge specific to the sector, and through developing appropriate skills in a sport management context.It is designed to develop your skills in management of professional sports, and in the management of organisations providing opportunities for participation in sport, fitness and exercise. The curriculum covers a range of sports provision in the commercial, public and voluntary sectors.
By studying at London Met, you will be studying in one of the leading sports cities in the world. London's passion for sport and its vision of a sporting future was recognised in the award by the International Olympic Committee for the 2012 Olympic Games. The new Olympic Park, costing several billion pounds, will be one of the largest sports-led urban regeneration projects in history, and Masters students will be well placed to study it at close hand. On the other side of London, the new Wembley Stadium is nearing completion, whilst Emirates Stadium, the new home of Arsenal Football Club, rises on the very doorstep of our campus. There are links with a number of sports organisations in London, for example, London Racers, London's professional ice hockey team, which provide opportunities for projects, visits and live case studies, thereby giving you valuable insights into management issues in the sector.
The main emphasis is on understanding the management, marketing and policy development challenges of delivering sports services within today's fast-moving conditions. The course helps you to develop skills and competencies that are valued by employers and necessary for success at senior levels of sport management.
