Program Description:

The Department of Counseling and Family Sciences offers one of only a few marital and family therapy programs in the state of California to have received national accreditation by the American Association for Marital and Family Therapists (AAMFT). Graduates from Loma Linda's MFT master's and doctoral programs are in demand as administrators, educators, educators, family therapists, consultants, medical family therapists, alcohol and drug specialists, case managers, family and clinical mediators, and clinic directors in working environments as varied as both profit and non-profit agencies, hospitals, colleges and university, family court, group homes, private practice, and professional organizations. Students develop sophistication in systemic/relational perspectives and practices, and become thinkers and leaders in the field. Students in the Ph.D. program will develop expertise in conducting original research from both qualitative and quantitative approaches, as well as skills for theory development and clinical training in academic and othe rsettings. Students who choose the doctor of marital and family therapy (D.M.F.T.) program will develop expertise in program development and evaluation, grant-writing, and the skills necessary for supervisory and administrative positions in clinical practice and community settings.
