MSN or MSN/MBA, Nursing administration and nursing education are available as post-master's certificate programs for the professional nurse who has a master's degree in nursing. The nursing administration certificate program requires 12 semester credits and the nursing education certificate requires 9 credits.

Program Description:

If you are a professional nurse seeking additional education, consider Lewis University's Master of Science in Nursing (MSN). Designed for working adults, this program will provide you with the advanced knowledge you need to become a leader in your field.

As an MSN student, you will achieve more specialized knowledge of health care delivery. You will practice the principles of critical inquiry, learning to design and execute complex strategies in healthcare. You will practice your skills in presentation and communication, making you a more effective leader. And, you will investigate the economic, social and political issues that influence community health, and develop strategies for intervention.

You can choose to focus your studies on specializations in Nursing Administration, Nursing Education, Adult Nurse Practitioner, Family Nurse Practitioner, or choose the dual MSN/MBA degree offered in partnership with the Lewis University Graduate School of Management.
•Nursing Administration: Graduates are prepared to function as leaders in the administration of nursing services and patient care services to improve the delivery of healthcare. Competencies are developed in the financial, economic, human resources, and organizational components of management.


•Nursing Education: Graduates are prepared to assume roles in education programs, and educator roles in staff development, continuing education, and community education in a variety of settings. Competencies are developed in curricular design, instructional methods, and program evaluation.


•Adult Nurse Practitioner: Graduates are prepared to provide primary healthcare for adolescents and adults in a wide variety of settings, including primary care clinics, hospitals, private practices, community health centers, and in the home.

Accreditation:

The graduate program is accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education. Graduates of the nurse practitioner programs are eligible to sit for the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) examination leading to certification as adult or family nurse practitioner. Graduates of the nursing administration and education specializations are eligible to seek national certification in their fields after practice requirements are met.

Eligibility Requirements:

•You must be licensed as a Registered Professional Nurse in your state
•You must have an undergraduate cumulative GPA of at least 3.00 for your undergraduate degree
•You must submit a current resume or curriculum vitae; two completed recommendation forms and official transcripts from all previous academic programs
•You must fulfill one of the following:

Graduation from a baccalaureate nursing program, accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) or the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC). Your curriculum should have included a three-semester credit hour course in statistics and a three-semester credit hour course in nursing research.

OR

Graduation from an associate degree or diploma nursing program accredited by NLNAC; and graduation from an accredited undergraduate degree program in any subject. Please consult the nurse practitioner program site for the exact requirements.
