Program Description:
The Middle School Education programs exemplify the Graduate School of Education's ability to incorporate the latest research and educational trends into its curriculum. The program recognizes current research on how children in the critical age group of 11-14 learn best. Lesley's programs emphasize all the characteristics of a good middle school that current research supports: interdisciplinary teams of teachers working together, concern for students' developmental needs, the teaching of reading and writing in all content areas, the integration of technology in the classroom, and multicultural perspectives. Students who wish to complete subject-specific programs should have an undergraduate major in that field OR have passed the Massachusetts Tests for Educator Licensure (MTEL) in the appropriate subject content area prior to being admitted into the program. Students may pursue the program on a part-time or full-time basis, during the week in the evening on campus or at various locations off campus in Massachusetts, in a weekend format.
